Extreme Publication

What is "extreme publication"?

"Extreme publication" is rapid capture and dissemination of the symposium outputs in multiple formats.

The keynote speeches and key findings of the parallel sessions will be videoed and the edited and elaborated transcripts published in a special edition on Collaborative e-Learning with an ISBN. The videos themselves will be available online, synchronised to additional presentational materials such as powerpoint presentations and digitally captured flip-charts or white boards. The videos and transcripts will be fully key word searchable. The material will also be available as downloadable podcasts.

The aim is to produce a rapid yet very detailed snapshot of real practice and solutions in a fast-moving and emergent area. Publications of proceedings can often lack cohesiveness and consistency so here we aim to rapidly prototype, develop and capture ideas in a similar way to how e-learning objects are created - through an iterative and intensive process that is both rigorous and fun.

Content captured in the two-day symposium will be elaborated and refined through telephone interviews with contributors. The intention is to create an informative and up to the minute publication with minimal delays before release.

The symposium themes will be developed in parallel sessions each led by a theme expert and recorded by a scribe. Each theme reports back to the main auditorium where the outputs are also captured on video. Contributions to the discussions by all participants will be actively encouraged and acknowledged.
