Stigmas
This graph shows that greater numbers of people are attending clinics
and are being diagnosed with an STI.
Fortenberry et al (2002) suggest shame is part of the experience
of seeking testing, treatment or advice. Overshadowing this are the
stigmas that have been historically associated with sexual infections
and clinic attendance.
These infections have been prevalent since the middle ages so why
do you think they continue to hold such an almost taboo status in Britain
today? |
