Basic requirements
This interactive medical sociology course is meant to be accessed via a high bandwidth connection - ethernet/LAN etc. It is not intended to be downloaded over a modem. All Cambridge colleges should by now be informed and have available the recommended minimum equipment spec and features, namely:
- Hardware
- Macintosh PowerPC 64Mb RAM System 8.x or Pentium PC 64Mb RAM Windows NT/2000
- 15" SVGA monitor
- Soundcard (Soundblaster 16 or compatible) + loudspeakers or headphones
- Printer (Laser/inkjet)
- Software
- Netscape Navigator 4.x, Internet Explorer 5.x
- Acrobat reader
- Plugins
If you have any problems with equipment, your first port of call is your college computer officer.
Here is a list of them with contact details (2 pages) in pdf.
n.b. PWF (public workstation facility) workstations are compliant, but may not have loudspeakers. Please note that headphones should be connected to the audio output at the back of the machine - not next to the CD player on the front.
How to move around
The Navigation Panel on the right side of the browser 'maps' the module. Each section is represented as a square. The current square is coloured pink. Visited squares are green.
All are hyperlinked making it easy to jump around the module. It is not recommended that you do this the first time around as this would be confusing, but the feature is useful if you wish to review any sections in case you missed something. The Navigation Panel resets whenever you reload the web page: each module is designed to work through in one sitting, just like a lecture.
