I founded Universities' Collaboration in eLearning (UCeL), in 2002. UCeL was a UK wide community of practice in Higher Education producing, sharing and evaluating high quality multimedia elearning resources (in the form of reusable learning objects or RLOs) to support health professional education. We broke a great deal of collaborative e-learning ground in UCeL, particularly in the areas of shareable content and practitioner-based workshops, and this formed a strong evidential foundation for our application to become a National Centre for Excellence.

Since the award of the Centre for Excellence by HEFCE in 2005, I've been Reward and Development Manager for the Centre for Excellence in Teaching & Learning in Reusable Learning Objects (RLO-CETL), a collaborative CETL led by London Metropolitan University and in partnership with the University of Nottingham, who were also UCeL partners. RLO-CETL's work is bold and wide-reaching incorporating both learning designs and tools development, evaluation and dissemination. But none of its outputs could be achieved without the communities of e-learning excellence it seeds, supports and sustains.

Hear the whole story in 45 minutes in a keynote I presented at the Glasgow Science Centre in January 2007 for the Scottish Institute for Excellence in Social Work Education " E-is for Excellence - what happens at RLO-CETL - and how we got here" Veotag video

I was a Trustee of the Association for Learning Technology (ALT) from 2005-2008 and am currently a member of the Jorum steering group.

At Wolfson College I'm Members' Steward and Chair of the Catering Committee. Unremunerated (as the President said), except by complaint...

In my spare time I enjoy real ale and, after extensive research a group of us have set up what we believe to be the world's first real Ale Flavour Comparison website. PintPicker is Web 2.0, free and great fun. www.pintpicker.co.uk. I also write an occasional real ale blog at pintpicker.blog.co.uk
